Paris Mnt. Race Report.

last Saturday I did the Paris Mnt. race. This is the race report for the race.

The swim was an open water 500 meter warm up. I decided to use my full wetsuit for the race for two reasons. One because the water was going to be cold and two, because I have not used it since I got it because I have always felt it was to small. I jumped in line for the swim start and off I went. The first 250 meters felt great and I remembered why I like wetsuit swims so much. It seems effortless. The last 250 meters sucked! For some reason I could not catch my breath. I think that has to do with the suit being to small and constrictive in the chest area. Needless to say I swam my fastest 500 meters ever. I got out of the water at 8:39. However, because this was a training day I walked to transition which put my time at 10 minutes and change.

T1: Even with having to take the wetsuit off and and not pushing it through transition I still managed under 1:30. So, I am pleased with that.

The Bike: The plan for the bike was to just ride and save my legs for the Langley Pond Race this Sat. The bike course was very tough and very hilly even before the Paris Mnt. climb. So, the plan was just to get through it. I did not pedal but one down hill and never pushed over 18mph on the flats. On the hills I just pedaled to get up them. The bike was not that bad, but I am sure that is because I gave little effort. Time: 1:21 20 miles.

T2: Once again not to bad for being lazy 1:08

The Run: Holy Crap! I was not prepared for the run to be as steep as it was. Mile 1 went fine 8:15 pace. Mile two was a 13:00 pace because that portion was straight up Paris Mnt. Mile three was a 13:30 pace because it was on a mountain bike trail and you had to jump over rocks, roots, and logs and it was straight down. The guy I was behind twisted his ankle twice. The last two miles was a 8:45 pace.

Overall, not a bad race. I was glad I was one of the first people to do this first time race. The race is billed as one of the toughest in the world for a short distance race. So that was good. Once however, will be enough. The run was very dangerous and the ride is not very good for a poor climber like myself.

Pictures of the race will be posted soon.

Columbia Race Report

Well because of all the things going on in my life right now I am just now giving the Columbia Race Report. So here goes.

My parents and grandfather went to the race along with Jorgia, Al, Chad, and Jimmy. We followed my Father to the race and I was a little concerned we would be late. However, we made it in plenty of time. The weather prior to race time was cold, cold, cold. The wind was blowing as well. I kinda wanted to just go home because I hate the cold so much. But, I pressed on.

The swim: I have never had a worse feeling swim during a race as I did here. All the people around me must have sand bagged their swim times because they beat the crap out of me in the water. I got kicked in the face, punched in the face, and swam over the top of by a chick! I finally made it to the end and was a minute faster than last year. So not all bad I guess.

T1: 1:23 which was not to bad. Had it not been -50 outside it might have been a little faster. But, I am pleased with this.

Bike: The bike went really well. I felt fast and strong on the bike. I even held back some to save some legs for the run. I did freeze my little willy off on the bike though and my feet went numb. Overall a good ride.

T2: 45 seconds in T2 which is the fastest transition I have ever had! I was pumped!

Run: The run was great and I felt really strong. I felt really good when I passed number 164 because he was such an ahole in transition prior to the race and would not move his bike to make room for me to rack my bike. Then he proceeded to give me the Triathlon rack your bike properly rules. This guy was a dooch bag and I am glad I beat him in all three events. Anyway, I set a PR for my run as I finally broke into the 21s 21:35 to be exact. I was very pleased!...Over all a good day of racing and step one to the Ironman is over. I will post pictures of the Race later.
